The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, December 19thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  • Superintendent Parker informed the Board that a Vulnerability Assessment for school buildings in our district was conducted by state representatives on December 5th.  The purpose of this assessment was to identify and address areas of concern regarding security in each of our buildings.  Also, this assessment will allow the school district to apply for up to $50,000 for each building to address concerns identified by this assessment.  If a school building doesn’t need to use all of the $50,000 to address concerns identified by the assessment, the remaining money can be used for optional building security/safety purposes.  The final report should be received by the district in four to six weeks.
  •  Superintendent Parker, Business Director Aude, and Principals Dohse and Shaffer provided the Board with updates regarding topics of interest that included many of the positive achievements of the school district’s students and staff.
  •  A representative from Estes Construction, the district’s construction manager, provided the school board with an update about the ongoing Facilities Enhancement Project.
  • The school board approved its Ad Hoc committee’s recommendation to have the Board recognize school district staff members who make outstanding contributions to our children’s education and well-being here in Camanche.
  • The school board took action to approve reinstating the Early Retirement Incentive for district employees for the current 2022-23 school year.
  • Superintendent Parker reported that he, Business Director Aude, and Directed Weber attended the December 13th meeting of the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) in Des Moines.   They discussed the topic of FY22’s preliminary categorical balance being greater than the amount of the district’s regular program balance with the SBRC and discussed the District’s initial plan to address this concern.
  • The school board approved applying for modified supplemental amount from the state to assist covering the costs associated with the District’s programming for supporting At-Risk Students and Dropout Prevention efforts.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
