100TH DAY OF SCHOOL

If there are no other snow days, the 100th day of school will be Monday, February 11th.  If we do have a snow day between now and then, we will adjust our 100th day of school celebration accordingly.

HEALTHY HABITS CALENDAR

January Healthy Habits calendars are due TOMORROW! Your student should also be bringing home a February calendar tomorrow.  The February calendar is also attached if you would like to print it yourself.  Any students that complete at least 23 days of activities listed on the calendar AND return the calendar to school on Friday, March 1st will receive an extra recess with Mr. D.!

CLASSROOM PARTIES

We will be having our classroom parties on Friday, February 15th from 2:30-3:00.  Please see the attached letter regarding the party.  Please follow the guidelines from the Healthy Kids Act. A list of approved snacks is available on our school website. Due to food allergies, any items that do not come pre-packaged will be sent back home with the family that brought them. Thank you for keeping our students safe!

SPRING PORTRAITS

Lifetouch Photography will be at Camanche Elementary on Thursday, February 14th taking spring portraits. All students will have their pictures taken, with no obligation to purchase. There is no need to fill out any order forms as the same packet is printed for all students and the portrait sheets will be available for purchase at spring parent/teacher conferences. However, parents do have the option of picking a portrait background. Selection forms will be sent home with students soon. If you would like, please select the portrait look and background and return the selection form on or before picture day.

2nd ANNUAL FAMILY READING NIGHT

Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 28th!  The 2nd Annual Camanche Family Reading Night will be held at our elementary school from 6:30-8:00!  This is a FREE event!! Families will be able to participate in two sessions.  There are more than 10 sessions to choose from.  Some of the presenters include Miss Iowa, Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw, who will be presenting 5 lessons of HOPE. She will also be playing her violin during intermission.  Local author Karla Unke will be hosting an interactive presentation about becoming an author.  Jill Schmidt, from Clinton County Conservation, will have a wonderful presentation featuring reptiles and amphibians.  Next week’s newsletter will introduce more of the speakers.  All of the elementary school children attending this event will receive a free book to keep!  Families need to preregister for this event so Mrs. Stephan and Mrs. Kennedy can select the right book for each child.  Registration information will be sent home later in February.

THANK YOU!

We would like to thank the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation for awarding the 2019 Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Supplement Grant to Mrs. Kennedy.  She and her kindergarten students will have some special learning opportunities about plants and plant life cycles.  We appreciate their support of our program!

PUBLIC INPUT FOR FACILITY PLANNING REQUESTED

The school board is looking for community input regarding future facility needs of the school district. During several informal discussions with stakeholders throughout the district, the following facility topics seem to consistently come up: remodeling the entrances to improve safety at the elementary and high schools, adding a new auditorium/theater, adding a new auxiliary gymnasium/weight room, and addressing the future of the district’s swimming pool.

The school board is looking for formal community input.  There will be three separate public meetings held at the high school theater to hear from the public their thoughts about the district’s facility needs. The meetings will be on Thursday, January 31st at 6:00pm, Monday, February 4th at 4:00pm, and Thursday, February 7th at 7:15am. Please note the different times of each meeting. Hopefully, having the meetings at different times will allow more people to attend these meetings. For those who are unable to attend these meetings, the district has created a short online survey to give stakeholders an opportunity to provide their ideas. Your participation is important and appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this planning process. The online survey can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6QyKr0EzVTM_y2UciYpj1-S3pEwTtTHUvaICCvvuWRiUi1w/viewform
