Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, September 19thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  •  Middle School Assistant Principal and Curriculum/Professional Learning Coordinator, Laura Johnson, presented the Board with a report about state-required student Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) test scores from the past year.  Generally, our students are showing acceptable growth and Mrs. Johnson described how these tests are aligned with the state-required Iowa Core Curriculum and how the results from these tests help teachers in making instructional decisions for their students.
  •  Representatives from the district’s Architect, Bray Architecture and Construction Manager, Estes Construction, were present to update the Board about Phase III of the Facilities Enhancement Project.  Work is steadily progressing and we tentatively plan to have the Choir Room and Wrestling Room ready for student use sometime around late fall.
  •  Superintendent Parker shared with the Board that Genesis Health will provide a Flu Clinic on October 4th for elementary school students whose parents wish to have them receive a flu shot.  Many parents have had their child participate in this program through the years.
  •  The Board approved soliciting bids to purchase a new 84 passenger bus to replace the current 84 passenger bus that is approaching the end of its use for extended activity trips.
  •  Business Director Aude informed the Board that we are seeing a slow cash flow in the General Fund due to slow property tax distribution.  A line of credit is being used to address this cash flow issue.  This loan will be repaid after the district receives school funding payments due from the state.
  • The Board approved having the district apply for Special Education Supplemental Funding to offset the deficit in that area.
  • The Board approved entering into an agreement with Plaza Physical Therapy to provide athletic training services for our athletes.
  • The Board approved extra class pay for eligible teachers and also salary lane changes for eligible teachers.
  •  Superintendent Parker reminded the Board about their upcoming Work Session scheduled for October 3rd at 6:30 p.m. An agenda will be published for this meeting.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
