Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, June 20thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  •  The Board approved the Graduating Class of 2022 and offered their congratulations to the graduates, their families, and friends.
  •  Individual Board members shared their impressions from the IASB Board Development Workshop they attended on May 19th.  The Board appreciated the opportunity to attend this workshop and are interested in knowing what additional workshops would be available.
  • The Board approved setting the admission prices for athletic events for the upcoming school year.  These prices were proposed by the River Valley Conference so there will be consistency throughout the conference when all member schools implement them.  High school events will be $6 for adults and students; middle school events will be $4 for adults and $1 for students.  The Board also approved increasing the price of season passes, which haven’t been increased in over ten years.  These prices will increase to $40 for students, $70 for adults, and $150 for family season passes.  Senior citizens will still be admitted to these events for free.
  • The Board discussed updates being proposed in the student handbooks.  Most of the discussion was around dress code updates; specifically, hats and hoods being worn by students.  The Board approved all student handbook proposals with the exception of the dress code proposal.  A Board ad hoc committee was formed that will meet with the school administration to discuss potential options regarding the dress code.
  • The Board approved renewing a sharing agreement with the Northeast School District to provide a Social Worker who works in both districts.
  • The Board approved renewing a sharing agreement with the Central DeWitt School District and the Northeast School District to provide an English Language Learner Teacher who will work in all three districts.
  • The Board conducted the 2nd Reading for a series of new, revised, or reviewed School Board Policies.  These policies were updated to comply with changes made in either state or federal law.  The Board approved the adoption of these policies.
  •  The Board approved renewing the district’s membership in Rural School Advocates of Iowa, which tends to represent the interests of school districts the size of Camanche.
  • The Board approved writing off inactive school lunch accounts left by families that have moved away through the 2021-22 school year in response to our auditor’s recommendation.
  •  The Board approved entering into a cooperative agreement with St. Ambrose University regarding student teaching placements and pre-student teaching placements in the Camanche School District.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
