Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, May 16thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  •  Transportation Director Schnoor recommended that the Board purchase the transportation route management system from BusRight.   This system provides route management, GPS monitoring, and parental information for our busses.  The Board approved entering into a three-year contract with BusRight.
  • The Board conducted a public hearing to amend FY22’s budget amount.  This is due to the increase in expenses related to ESSER funding that the district has received from the federal government.  This will not impact the tax rate. The Board took action to approve this budget amendment later in this meeting.
  • The Board voted to approve renewing the district’s contract with the Mississippi Bend AEA to provide Drivers’ Education to Camanche students.  The cost for taking this class will be $385 per student.  In reviewing options, this is the most cost-effective option for our students.
  • The Board approved a series of Change Orders for Phase III of the Facilities Enhancement Project.  Most of these change orders were needed to comply with requirements put in place by the Fire Marshal’s office.
  •  The Board scheduled a learning workshop with the Iowa Association of School Boards on May 19th starting a 5:00 p.m.  This learning opportunity will be similar in nature to workshops school staff attend regarding various educational topics.  The Board expressed an interest to use this workshop to generally identify characteristics of effective school boards and to enhance teamwork with the administrative team.
  •  The Board approved renewing its subscription to Iowa School Finance Information Services.  This organization supports school districts in Iowa by providing various resources that support or inform districts about school finance or other items that may have a positive impact upon the school district’s financial position.
  • The Board conducted the 1st Reading for a series of new, revised, or reviewed School Board Policies.  These policies are updated to comply with changes made in either state or federal law.  A 2nd Reading and likely adoption of these policies will occur during next month’s meeting.
  • The Board approved accepting the 5-Year Projects Plan for ongoing maintenance and improvements being made to the district’s facilities.  This provides the district with a multi-year plan to provide a vision for future district needs, so planning can take place to efficiently allocate funding.
  • The Board approved funding to update the plumbing for gas and water in the high school biology lab.  These updates will replace original equipment that was installed in 1976.  The Board also approved the installation of a fume hood as a safety measure in that lab.
  • The Board took action to dispose of old theatre equipment that was outdated and no longer of use to the district.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
