NO SCHOOL TOMORROW
Just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL TOMORROW, Friday, March 4th!
FROM THE DISTRICT LIBRARIAN – CHECK THIS OUT!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is happening now! We are hosting the book fair in our Elementary School Media Center during our spring conferences (1:30 – 7:00 pm) on Wednesday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 3rd. Can’t wait to see all of you, and watch the students’ faces light up with the prospect of buying books of their own!
SPELLING BEE CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to our spelling bee champions in grades 2, 3, and 4! Sophia Morrow is our School-wide Champion and the 4th grade spelling champion! She will advance to the Regional Competition in March in the Quad Cities. She will face other school spelling bee champions from various schools in the Quad City area. Cody Gravert is the 3rd grade spelling bee winner. Sophia Munson is the 2nd grade spelling bee winner. In our school championship round, Sophia Munson earned 2nd place. These students, as well as all the other children who accepted this challenge, studied lengthy lists of spelling words! We are so proud of all of all of our dedicated spelling bee participants!
CONGRATULATIONS SUMDOG TEAM!
Congratulations to our school’s Sumdog math team! They earned 1st place out of 59 teams in the Eastern Iowa Mississippi Bend Sumdog math contest. There were 559 students who participated in the contest. We had 14 students whose scores were in the top 25! Carsten Toler, Addi Totten, Kade Varner, Sophia Morrow, and Zoe Cinadr were so accurate that their scores were in the top 10! The students in the contest needed to solve 1000 math problems within one week. Third grade members of our school Sumdog team are: Katelynn Burken, Marley Fuller, Cody Gravert, Luke Gravert, Landon Green, Hayleigh Lorenzen, Gabby Sampson, Lakin Springer, and Addi Totten. The Sumdog team members in fourth grade are: Harper Bagg, Zoe Cinadr, Addison Coffey, Emery Davis, Sophia Johnson, Lily Laurion, Sophia Morrow, Carsten Toler, and Kade Varner. We are so proud of our mathematicians!
FROM MRS. MUNSON
This week discuss with your student the importance of goal setting. We want our children to succeed in life. Goal setting for children is important because it gives them a sense of purpose that can improve their confidence and build their self-esteem (this is also true for us adults). It also helps them to focus and make better decisions. Here are some articles to help you effectively teach this important life skill:
