Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, February 21stPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  •  Representatives from the district’s Architect, Bray Architecture, and Construction Manager, Estes Construction, were present to discuss Alternatives received for Phase III of the Facilities Enhancement Project.  These alternatives would add some nice finishing touches to the project and add back some of the features that were removed due to budget limitations.  The additions include adding an improved roofing system; providing the baseball/softball batting cage that was part of the original plans; installing a dividing curtain for the new wrestling room; installing the section of synthetic grass surface in the weight room/wellness facility that was part of the original plans; and completing the stage rigging sets in the new theater.  The Board accepted these options and also decided not to install lesser quality flooring in some areas of the new facility.
  •  Superintendent Parker updated the Board about the COVID-19 infection trends in our schools.  We are currently seeing a decline in the number of infections and each of our school buildings has less than ten infections reported.
  •  Andrea Rumler from Winkel, Parker, and Foster reported to the Board that the audit for FY21 was of Good Standing and a Clean Report.
  •  The Board conducted a public hearing regarding the proposed 2022-2023 school calendar with no comments being made. The proposed calendar would continue to be a Common Calendar which allows all of the school districts in Clinton County to coordinate their schedules with Clinton Community College.  This will allow students who wish to enroll in Career and Technical Education classes at CCC more of an opportunity to do so.  This also supports our students’ opportunities to take additional college coursework.  This proposed calendar was reviewed by the School Improvement Advisory Committee which made recommendations on the placement of the dates for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  The Board approved the calendar.
  •  The Board voted to approve adding the P3 School Tipline program to our Navigate system.  This will allow students or parents to anonymously report school safety concerns to school personnel by using communication technology or phone.  The administration appreciates information it receives from our students regarding safety concerns they have and this will provide yet another way for students to communicate their safety concerns.
  •  The Board is looking to schedule a learning workshop with the Iowa Association of School Boards.  This learning opportunity would be similar in nature to workshops school staff attend regarding various educational topics.  The Board expressed an interest to use this workshop to generally identify characteristics of effective school boards and to enhance teamwork with the administrative team.
  •  The Board voted to scrap an old school van that was no longer safe for school use and to replace it with a used 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
