Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, January 17thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  • The Board approved authorizing the administration to apply to the state for funding due to an increase of students in the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program this year.  This will be an increase of funding for the district of $7,227.00
  •  The representatives from the district’s Architect, Bray Architecture, and Construction Manager, Estes Construction, were present to present the bids received for Phase III of the Facilities Enhancement Project.  They were pleased to report that when combined the costs of Phase I and Phase II of the Project, the Phase III bids will allow the school district to maintain a budget in line with the $13.4 million approved by the school district’s voters during the bond referendum.  President Weber and Superintendent Parker thanked Estes Construction and Bray Architects for their efforts in making this possible.  The Board approved accepting the bids related to Phase III of the Facilities Enhancement Project.  Estes Construction will develop an updated time schedule to account for supply chain challenges that still exist due to the pandemic.
  •  Superintendent Parker updated the Board about the COVID-19 protocols that are being followed in the district.  The school district has placed any further actions in implementing OSHA’s requirements on hold as recommended by the school district’s attorney.  The school district is continuing to closely monitor the number of infections in our schools. If one of our buildings totals 10 or more infections, that specific number is reported to the school board.  If the number of infections in a building is under ten, no specific number is reported in order to protect the privacy of individuals who are infected.
  • The Board approved the 2nd Reading of Board Policy 204.15 which changes the starting time for regular monthly school board meetings on the third Monday of each month from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  •  Superintendent Parker notified the Board that he will present his recommendation for the 2022-2023 staffing plan and budget estimate at the March 21, 2022 meeting.
  • Superintendent Parker presented the Board with a draft copy of a proposed school calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.  The proposed calendar would continue to be a Common Calendar which allows all of the school districts in Clinton County to coordinate their schedules with Clinton Community College.  This will allow students who wish to enroll in Career and Technical Education classes at CCC more of an opportunity to do so.  This also supports our students’ opportunities to take additional college coursework.  This proposed calendar will be reviewed by the School Improvement Advisory Committee with the intention of presenting it to the school board for final approval in February.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
