FROM MRS. MUNSON
Family Focus of the Week: “Mistakes Help Me Learn and Grow.” We all make mistakes – some big, some small. The important thing to remember is that every mistake is an opportunity to learn. This week, we are encouraging students to think about how mistakes help them grow. The message “mistakes help me learn and grow” supports the idea of a growth mindset – a concept students explore during counseling lessons. A growth mindset helps children understand that abilities improve with effort, practice, and learning from setbacks. At home, talk with your child about a mistake you’ve made and what you learned from it. Sharing your own experiences helps normalize mistakes and shows that growth is a lifelong process.
Here are a few helpful tips to discuss with your child about learning from mistakes:
· Take a deep breath and stay calm
· Think about what you learn from the situation
· Ask, “What can I try differently next time?”
· Remember that no one is perfect
You may also enjoy reading these books together this week:
· The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett and Gary Rubinstein
· The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires
· Too Perfect by Trudy Ludwig
· A Perfectly Messed-Up Story by Patrick McDonnell
Thank you for supporting your child as they build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning!
