FROM MRS. MUNSON
Talk with your child about what it means to focus. Learning how to focus is an important skill – and it takes lots of practice! Even adults sometimes find it hard to stay focused when there are many distractions around us. When children learn this skill early, it helps them stay on task and do their best work. When we ignore distractions, we are showing respectful and responsible behavior. Using positive self-talk can also help children stay focused, keep working, and feel proud of their efforts. You can practice focusing at home by trying these simple steps together:
· Take three deep breaths or count to five
· Say, “I won’t look. I’ll keep on working”
· Keep working
· Say, “Good for me! I did it!”
Books to read together this week:
· Fix It with Focus: A Story About Ignoring Distractions and Staying on Task by Bryan Smith
· It’s Hard to Be a Verb by Julia Cook
