FROM MRS. MUNSON
An important concept that I teach all students is that “All of our feelings are ok; actions are ok or not ok”. Our children should know that it is normal to feel uncomfortable feelings such as anger, sadness, and worry. The important thing is that we are dealing with these emotions appropriately. It is ok to feel angry, but it is not ok to hurt someone.
Books to read together this week:
· Sometimes I’m Bombaloo by Rachel Vail and Yumi Heo
· When I Feel Angry by Cornelia Maude Spelman
· My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss
· The Way I Feel by Janan Cain
FLUENCY FOCUS: SUPPORTING YOUNG READERS AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME
Fluency is all about helping your child read more smoothly, confidently, and with expression – like they’re telling a story, not just sounding out words. When kids become fluent readers, it’s easier for them to understand and enjoy what they’re reading. At school, we’re working hard to build fluency through daily reading practice, engaging activities, and small group support. You can help at home by listening to your child read out loud, reading favorite books together, or even taking turns like you’re putting on a performance. Just 15 to 20 minutes of reading each day can make a big difference. The more fun and relaxed it feels, the more confident and excited your child will be about reading!
For parents of very young children who are not yet reading, it’s just as important – and wonderful – for them to hear you read aloud. Sharing stories aloud builds vocabulary, sparks imagination, and sets the foundation for future fluent reading. So, grab a favorite book, get cozy, and enjoy the magic of reading together!
