FROM MRS. MUNSON

All students have learned, “Grown-ups are in charge of Big Deals; Kids are in charge of Little Deals”. Big deals and little deals is language our students are familiar with, since it is a yearly guidance lesson I teach to all elementary students. Big deals consist of emergencies, dangerous situations, or if someone is physically hurt. When big deals happen, it is important to get help from a trusted adult right away. Little deals are situations/problems that happen every day. Students are taught several problem-solving strategies they can use in any little deal situation. We empower students to use their problem-solving strategies for little deals that arise throughout the day, as it is a crucial life skill to develop. Ask your child what little deal strategies they use most often. Here is a video to watch with your student: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ6F_18LnMA For more information about how to teach problem-solving at any age: https://biglifejournal.com/blogs/blog/how-teach-problem-solving-strategies-kids-guide

Here are some books to read together and discuss:

·       Big Deals and Little Deals and What to Do When They Happen to You by Kim Edmister
