The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, October 16thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:

  •  Superintendent Parker reminded everyone that the school election will be on November 7th with the polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Travis Baker, Janna Linville-Morrow, and Brad Weber are running for re-election and Adam Collins and Jeff Graves are running as first-time candidates.
  • Superintendent Parker provided the Board with a summary of student enrollment for the 2023-24 school year.  After two years of seeing modest increases in enrollment, we will now have decrease in students served this year.  A positive enrollment trend is Camanche having a net increase of over 90 students entering the district through Open Enrollment.  The administration and Board will continue to monitor student enrollment trends as they develop.
  • Superintendent Parker thanked the volunteers from the River Church who provided community service to the school district by cleaning up and beautifying the rock garden between the parking lot and tennis courts by the high school and the elementary school baseball diamond.  Their work on these areas is greatly appreciated.
  • The Board continued their discussion regarding the use of a School Improvement Needs Assessment Survey.  This would be an on-line survey that the district would encourage community, students, and staff to participate in. The Iowa Association of School Boards can provide the assessment and would facilitate its administration and analysis.  The Board will identify questions that they would like to add to this survey during next month’s meeting on November 20th.
  • The Board heard updates from a representative from Estes Construction about the Facilities Enhancement Project and approved Change Orders from this project as we near its completion.
  • Superintendent Parker informed the Board that the Open House, Ribbon Cutting, and Cornerstone Ceremony is scheduled to occur on November 15th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the high school theater.  As a part of this event the community will be welcome to tour and celebrate the opening of our new and renovated facilities made possible by their support of our bond referendum.
  • The Board approved the school district applying for Allowable Costs for the required English Language Learner program.
  •  The Board approved the guidelines and procedures for students taking online courses in the Camanche School District.
  • The Board set a Special Meeting for November 6th at 6:00 p.m. to review exhibits that will be submitted to the School Budget Review Committee.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
