FAMILY VALENTINE BINGO – TOMORROW!

            The Camanche Elementary PTA is excited to be hosting the 2nd Annual Family Valentine Bingo night tomorrow, Friday, February 8th from 5:30-7:30pm!  Admission is $4 per person and will include a meal, dessert, drink and bingo card!  Each time there is a bingo, a child will be able to pick out a book that has been donated for the event!  Please join us for this family oriented night of bingo in the Camanche Elementary School gym!

 

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL – NOW TUESDAY!

            If there are no other snow days, the 100th day of school will be Tuesday, February 12th.  If we do have a snow day between now and then, we will adjust our 100th day of school celebration accordingly.

  

SPRING PORTRAITS

            Lifetouch Photography will be at Camanche Elementary on Thursday, February 14th taking spring portraits. All students will have their pictures taken, with no obligation to purchase. There is no need to fill out any order forms as the same packet is printed for all students and the portrait sheets will be available for purchase at spring parent/teacher conferences. However, parents do have the option of picking a portrait background. Selection forms will be sent home with students soon. If you would like, please select the portrait look and background and return the selection form on or before picture day.

  

CLASSROOM PARTIES

            We will be having our classroom parties on Friday, February 15th from 2:30-3:00.  Please see the attached letter regarding the party.  Please follow the guidelines from the Healthy Kids Act. A list of approved snacks is available on our school website. Due to food allergies, any items that do not come pre-packaged will be sent back home with the family that brought them. Thank you for keeping our students safe!

 

NO SCHOOL FEBRUARY 18TH – PRESIDENT’S DAY

            There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 18th in observance of President’s Day.

 

SINGING VALENTINES

            Need the perfect gift to give your sweetheart? Why not a singing valentine? Singing valentines are a fundraiser for the Camanche High School Vocal Department. The cost is only $5 and must be purchased by Wednesday, February 13th.  Every person receiving a singing valentine will receive a sweet song AND a Sweetheart Bakery decorated cookie. The order form is attached and also available in the office at Camanche Elementary.

 

HEALTHY HABITS CALENDAR

            February Healthy Habits calendars were handed out last week! Any students that complete at least 23 days of activities listed on the calendar AND return the calendar to school on Friday, March 1st will receive an extra recess with Mr. D.!

 

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

            Hi Camanche Family! As you know, we are getting close to our annual event Kids Heart Challenge to support the American Heart Association. Our event will run February 13-27.  Be sure to register online and take the heart challenge and be part of this great event. You can send ecards, email and add a link to your Facebook page. It’s really easy! 2nd ANNUAL FAMILY READING NIGHT

            Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 28th!  This is a wonderful night for families to come and participate in reading-related learning adventures! Each child and parent need to sign up for the sessions they would like to attend together at this free event. There are more than 1- sessions to choose from. Some of the presenters include Colleen Temple from Fit Assist. Her presentation is full of kid-friendly exercises that will get everyone moving and having fun. Ty Gravert will lead a session about the importance of electronics to society. Audience members will get great ideas for using makey makeys and snap circuits. Matt Parbs from the Sawmill Museum will be returning with 2 wonderful sessions helping audience members experience the American Lumber Saga. Also returning is Paul Hopkins who has a new magic show to share with the theme of helping kids discover the magic they can do by being a positive influence. All of the elementary school children attending this event will receive a free book to keep!  Families need to preregister for this event so Mrs. Stephan and Mrs. Kennedy can select the right book for each child.  Registration information will be in next week’s newsletter!

 

THANK YOU!

            We would like to thank the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation for awarding the 2019 Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Supplement Grant to Mrs. Kennedy.  She and her kindergarten students will have some special learning opportunities about plants and plant life cycles.  We appreciate their support of our program!

 

KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP

            Kindergarten Round Up will be held on Thursday, February 21st from 5:00-6:00PM & Friday, February 22nd from 8:30-9:30AM & 10:00-11:00AM.  If you have a child that will turn 5 years old on or before September 15, 2019, please call our office to add them to our Round Up list.  We can’t wait to meet all of our future kindergartners!

 

FROM THE K-8 LIBRARIAN – CHECK THIS OUT!

            Our Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner! We will host the book fair in our Elementary Media Center during our spring conferences (1:30-7:00pm) on Wednesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 7th. Watch for flyers to be sent home earlier that week for information on how you can order from home and have your order sent directly to school where we will deliver to your children. We can’t wait to see all of you, and watch the students’ faces light up with the prospect of buying books of their own!

 

CES READING GOAL

            We DID it!!! We surpassed our goal of 98,500 minutes in the month of January! We read 101,383 minutes.  Students can bring a stuffed reading buddy and blanket to school TOMORROW! Keep reading and stay tuned for the next upcoming reward opportunity!

 

ATTENDANCE

            If your student is going to be absent, will arrive late, or needs to leave early, please make sure to call the main office no later than 9 a.m. on the day of the absence, tardy or early dismissal.

Our attendance is currently 96.50%. We as a school have set a goal of 97%. Thank you for working with us to reach that goal, EVERY DAY matters.
