BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

Congratulations to the Camanche Battle of the Books teams! The 4th grade earned first place in the Virtual Regional Battle of the Books. Members of the 4th grade team are: Kenzie Barrette, Maci Hammond, Wyatt Ohsann, and Cameron Shaffer. The 3rd grade team earned second place in their division. Members of the 3rd grade team are: Addy Coffey, Claire Dunlay, Lily Laurion, and Addy Volz. There were 14 teams from various eastern Iowa schools in the competition. The teams were coached by Sheryl Kennedy.

WATER BOTTLES

Please make sure that your student brings a water bottle to school EVERY DAY. The drinking portions of the water fountains are still turned off for safety reasons. The bottle filling portions have remained on and students are encouraged to refill their water bottles throughout the day. Thank you!

TOYS

We urge parents to send NO toys to school. Toys can oftentimes cause conflicts or distractions that disrupt the learning process. Toys which are expensive or potentially disruptive are not to be brought to school. It is impossible to assure the physical well being of expensive toys in all situations. The following list is not inclusive and is intended to provide some examples of the objects which should not be brought to school: electronic tablets, fidget spinners, laser lights, roller blades, rubik’s cubes, baseballs/baseball bats, radios, music players, electronic games and trading cards. In addition, items which are potentially harmful to others are not to be brought to school. If a teacher allows students to bring toys for a situation such as show and tell the toys must remain in the classroom. Any inappropriate items brought to school will be confiscated and in some cases kept for parents to pick up.

PLEASE WEAR A MASK

This is a reminder that masks are REQUIRED for ALL students and staff during the school day. Please make sure to send your child with at least one mask every day. We have had a lot of forgotten masks in the last couple of weeks and are running low on our supply of extras. If you are able to send two for your student, that’s even better! If one gets wet or dirty or isn’t fitting properly, it would be great to have an extra in their bookbag or classroom cubby to use as a replacement. Thank you so much for helping to keep everyone healthy and safe!

STEM FUNDING

The Southeast Iowa Regional STEM Advisory Board of the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council selected CES to be one of the schools that will receive funding to purchase more than $9000 worth of STEM materials and training on those materials. The Board received 238 requests for funding and CES’s was one of the requests that will be funded. The money will purchase Storytime STEM packs for the kindergarten and first grade teams along with Chelsea Ehlers, Sara Darling, and Misti Wilkening.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

Due to current circumstances, outside snacks and treats are not allowed to be brought into school for classroom or birthday celebrations.  However, the Camanche CSD Food Service department DOES have snacks available for purchase.  Snacks need to be ordered ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE of the date you would like them delivered. See the attached Birthday Snack order form.  Order forms can also be found on our school website at: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/245542/2018-19_SUGGESTED_BDAY_SNACKS.pdf  Thank you for keeping our students safe!
