FLU SHOTS

We will be participating in the Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities vaccine program for elementary students K-4. Genesis VNA provides this community service to us. The program provides a free flu shot to any student that has parent consent. The clinic will be here at school on Thursday, October 3rd. Please see the attached information sheet and consent form. The consent form must be filled out and sent back for your child to participate in this program.

CES READING GOAL

We are working on a school-wide reading goal. As a school we have set a goal of 109,000 minutes in the month of September. We will be sharing how many minutes we have as a school in our weekly newsletter. Your child’s teacher has created a calendar that lets you know how many minutes your child needs to read each evening to help us reach this goal. We will celebrate if/when we reach this goal. Thank you for helping support this work!

START & END TIMES

The first bell will ring at 7:58 each morning with the tardy bell at 8:03.  Dismissal will be 3:08 for bus students and all other students will dismiss at 3:15.  Breakfast is served daily from 7:30 to 7:58.

Please remember that there is no playground supervision before 7:45 a.m.  Thank you for your cooperation in not sending students to school before this time.  It helps to keep our students safe!

EARLY OUTS

Parents are reminded that we will be dismissing ninety minutes early (1:38/1:45) EVERY WEDNESDAY for staff development.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UPS

Please remember that 6th Avenue, located on the west side of the playground, is treated as a ONE-WAY every morning and afternoon to accommodate the traffic flow of parents dropping off and picking up students.

LOST & FOUND

In previous years we have ended the year with a bumper crop of items in our Lost & Found box.  We would like to improve on that this year and are asking for your help.  Please write your child’s name on all tote bags, lunch boxes, coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc. so if an item does turn up in our Lost & Found box, we can get that item returned to its rightful owner as soon as possible.

HEALTHY HABITS CALENDAR

September Healthy Habits calendars were sent home earlier this week!  Any students that complete at least 20 days of activities listed on the calendar AND return their calendar to school on October 1st will receive an extra recess with Mr. D.!

MUSIC NOTES

4th Grade Families:  Please remember to bring back your recorders for music class as soon as possible.  If you have lost your recorder over the summer, the cost to replace it will be $2.50.

All Camanche Elementary Families: Please see that your child wears their gym shoes on the days they have music class. If you have any questions or concerns, I can be contacted through the school or by email at: jmeyer@camanchecsd.org.

Thank you! - Miss Jen, Music Teacher

GYM SHOES

Mr. DeNeve would like to remind all our families that gym shoes are required for his students to participate in PE class.  Please see that your child wears their gym shoes on the days they have PE.  With that in mind, if you happen to have any used shoes that are in good condition, and you are willing to donate to his program, he would be happy to take them off your hands to share with students that forget to wear their gym shoes to his class.

ARTSONIA

Please see the attached note from our Art teacher, Mrs. Wallace.  Camanche Elementary is SO EXCITED about the opportunity to use Artsonia to share art projects with our students’ families!

TOYS

We urge parents to send NO toys to school. Toys can often times cause conflicts or distractions that disrupt the learning process. Toys which are expensive or potentially disruptive are not to be brought to school. It is impossible to assure the physical well being of expensive toys in all situations. The following list is not inclusive and is intended to provide some examples of the objects which should not be brought to school: electronic tablets, fidget spinners, laser lights, roller blades, rubik’s cubes, baseballs/baseball bats, radios, music players, electronic games and trading cards. In addition, items which are potentially harmful to others are not to be brought to school. If a teacher allows students to bring toys for a situation such as show and tell the toys must remain in the classroom.  Any inappropriate items brought to school will be confiscated and in some cases kept for parents to pick up.

THANK YOU!

The Camanche Elementary School Lego League & Lego League Jr. teams would like to thank John Deere for their donation to our teams!  We appreciate their financial support!

CRAYOLA COLORCYCLE

Did you know that Camanche Elementary School collects markers that are no longer usable? Our school participates in the Crayola ColorCycle program. Here is how the program works. Have your child bring nonworking markers to school. The markers need to be placed in a special box outside of Mrs. Kennedy’s classroom. When the box is full, Mrs. Kennedy and some of her students count them and send them to the Crayola Company. Dried up markers are collected all year. Crayola pays the shipping charges so this program is totally free for our school to participate in. Crayola repurposes the markers, which keeps the markers out of the landfill. It takes more than 20 years for one plastic marker to decompose in a landfill. This week we sent 581 dried up markers to Crayola. That is 11.6 pounds of markers! We kept a lot of markers out of the landfill! That is something to be proud of!

THANK YOU!

Camanche Elementary Robotics would like to thank ADM for their wonderful donation!  The funding from ADM will enable us to purchase more ozobots and makey makeys for students to use in their learning adventures!  We appreciate ADM’s support and interest in our learning.

ATTENDANCE

If your student is going to be absent, will arrive late, or needs to leave early, please make sure to call the main office no later than 9 a.m. on the day of the absence, tardy or early dismissal.

Our attendance is currently 97.91%. We as a school have set a goal of 96.5%. Thank you for working with us to reach that goal, EVERY DAY matters.
