Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Camanche High School

As the new principal of Camanche High School, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Camanche High School as well as introduce myself. I am Benita Gonzales, a graduate of CHS, and I am extremely excited to be returning to my alma mater to serve in this capacity. While I didn’t graduate from the “new” building, I have had the opportunity to walk the halls of the “old” high school and reminisce about the “olden days”. Names and faces have changed, but there remains the culture that has so proudly served the many graduates that have walked the hallowed halls of CHS.

As an undergraduate from the University of Dubuque, I began my teaching career at Lewis Central Middle School in Council Bluffs then spent 20 years in the Davenport CSD (Central) as a Physical Education teacher/coach. I attained my masters in school counseling through Western Illinois and completed my administrative coursework with UNI.

Before taking this position, I taught, coached, and was a building principal and district superintendent. Most recently, I spent 3 years as a science instructional coach in Victoria, Texas—going to miss those Texas winters!

As stated earlier, I am a graduate of Camanche High School and remember my experience fondly. My wish for all of our students is that they too will look back on their years as an Indian and reflect with a smile and warm regard for their time spent at CHS.

The CHS staff and I look forward to partnering with you to make 2017-2018 an outstanding school year! Please don’t hesitate to contact us with concerns, issues or celebrations.

Indian Pride!
